Social Media Intern

As a social media intern, you will help take our social media to the next level. You will help us to develop and execute a social media plan that will challenge your design and research skills. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to own their results from start to finish while exploring new tools and media. Please note: this position is unpaid; student applicants may apply for course credit.

Transferrable skills:

  • develop and share compelling content
  • craft and execute social media campaigns while monitoring results
  • create a resource library for future social media campaigns
  • understand fundraising principles
  • write effectively for a broad audience

You’re a great fit if you:

  • have an interest in non-profit communications, design, and/or data analytics
  • enjoy persuading people why our cause is important
  • want to track, analyze, compare, and optimize a plan from start to finish
  • participate in new social media outlets beyond Twitter and Facebook

Education Data and Research Internship

As an education data and research intern, you will have the opportunity to delve into the most pressing issues of the day with the support of a leading New Orleans education research institute working closely with our policy team. Sample project descriptions are below, and while our work changes to meet the needs of our audience, you will always be at the forefront of collecting and analyzing knowledge that informs our work and publications. Please note: this is an unpaid internship, but student applicants may apply for course credit.

Transferrable skills:

  • concrete research project you can use for graduate school applications
  • quantitative and qualitative research design skills
  • data analysis software training (depending on the project)
  • analytical thinking skills
  • understanding of relational data models

You’re a great fit if you:

  • would like to build experience for graduate school
  • enjoy parsing data and discovering new things
  • are interested in policy work in any field
  • have some interest or previous experience using tools like Excel and Access
  • want to have hands-on experience building and organizing data sets

We are looking for someone passionate about solving problems and making a difference in our education community. Do you identify as an architect, hacker, entrepreneur, builder, designer, or maker? As a Special Projects intern with the Cowen Institute, you will have the opportunity to design your own internship experience with guidance from a senior member of our policy team. You will build a process, framework, tool, application, website, platform, or model that will help us better advance public education and youth success in New Orleans and beyond. Please note, this is an unpaid internship, but student applicants may apply for course credit.


Special Projects Intern

Transferrable skills:

  • an artifact to showcase the application of your skills and creativity
  • quantitative and qualitative research design skills
  • strategic thinking and rapid prototyping
  • data analysis software training (depending on the project)
  • user experience and interaction design

You’re a great fit if you:

  • bring fresh ideas from any area
  • would like to build relevant experience for graduate school or future career
  • bring a working knowledge of SQL, JSON, R, Python, REST, LaTeX, or proficiency in a software application that you love
  • have an interest in exploring APIs
  • enjoy parsing data and discovering new things
  • are interested in designing and implementing solutions
  • have some interest or previous experience using tools like Excel and Access
