Abstract:
This report from the Bureau of Governmental Research (BGR) is an explanation of the four Orleans Parish property tax millages dedicated to public schools that were up for renewal in 2008. BGR takes the position that, despite many unknowns about Orleans Parish public schools in the future (most notably the number of students they will serve over the coming decade), voters should approve the millages. If the measure fails, schools will lose approximately $1,000 per student in funding annually.
