Rebuilding and Transforming: A Plan for Improving Public Education in New Orleans
Bring New Orleans Back Commission – Education Committee
March 2006
Abstract:
Commissioned by the mayor-appointed Bring New Orleans Back Commission’s Education Committee, the report provides a framework for rebuilding and transforming public education in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Based on a review of the features of high-performing schools, advice from experts, and input from education stakeholders in New Orleans, the report proposes a series of recommendations for improving public schools. These include implementing a network governance model, where relatively autonomous schools work together to provide shared services and share best practices.
