Starting Fresh in Low-Performing Schools: Empowering Teachers
National Association of Charter School Operators
2007
Abstract:
The Starting Fresh in Low-Performing Schools series provides district leaders with a blueprint for making deep and lasting change – the kind that is likely to lead to improvements in our most struggling schools. In this section, Empowering Teachers, the Starting Fresh series advises that schools incentivize teachers with improved salary schedules, envision teachers as collaborative partners, and review teacher contracts so that their strengths can be used to schools’ advantages. Through empowering teachers, the authors believe that they will buy into the changes that starting fresh will require.
