Abstract:
This working paper from the Urban Institute’s National Center for Analysis of Longitudinal Data in Education Research (CALDER), by Eric Hanushek, begins with an overview of what is known about the relationship between teacher quality and student achievement. The report suggests that replacing the bottom 5-8 percent of teachers with average teachers could move the U.S. near the top of international math and science rankings with a present value of $100 trillion.
