Abstract:
Published in 2007, this detailed report examines the past and current state of public education in New Orleans. The report details the history of the public school system in New Orleans through August 2005 and describes the new model of public education governance in New Orleans post Hurricane Katrina. Additionally, there is data from focus groups, surveys and interviews held with a multitude of teachers, students, parents, and principals that focuses on these stakeholders’ needs within the current system and desires for the future. Concluding the report is a “Call to Action” with a set of concrete recommendations for immediate implementation to improve the current state of public education in New Orleans.
