This report gathers and presents statistical data on Louisiana education policies and achievement, and also identifies, in its Chance-for-Success Index, strong and weak components in the educational experience of a Louisiana resident, from infancy through adulthood. Louisiana falls significantly behind every state but Mississippi when it comes to factors that indicate success, such as: family income, parent education, reading and mathematics proficiency and postsecondary education participation. Louisiana also finds itself in ahead of only four states and territories when it comes to student achievement, but is ranked second when it comes to the state’s use of academic standards and accountability policies.
