The State of Public Education in New Orleans: Five Years after Katrina
In August 2005, New Orleans was devastated by flooding due to levee failures in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The hurricane changed the political landscape of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana, which had a major effect on the city’s public school system, one of the lowest performing in the country.
